The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an important cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. UBE2C is required for the destruction of mitotic cyclins and for cell cycle progression. It accepts ubiquitin from the E1 complex and catalyzes its covalent attachment to other proteins. UBE2C acts as an essential factor of the anaphase, promotes complex/cyclosome (APC/C) controls progression through mitosis.
